Africa Bike Trips is an adventure motorcycle company based in Umhlanga Rocks just outside Durban South Africa and specialises in tours around Kwa-Zulu Natal and Lesotho. Kwa-Zulu Natal is a province in the southeast of South Africa, bordered by 540km of the warm Indian Ocean on the east, provinces of the Eastern Cape (southwest), Freestate (west), Mpumalanga (north), and the countries of Mozambique (far northeast), Swaziland (northeast), and Lesotho (southwest) making up the other borders.

We have identified a need to run guided motorcycle tours for the more discerning motorcyclist, offering the latest up to date adventure motorcycles, with the best possible overnight accommodation and cuisine. Our focus is to bring you to experience our two Unesco World Heritage Sites and the many beautiful sites the region has to offer.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park where you will experience Africa’s largest estuary is home to hippopotami, Nile crocodiles, elephant, African leopard, buffalo, black and southern white rhino and a multitude of other wildlife.

The spectacular uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park has exceptional natural beauty and is the highest range south of Kilimanjaro. The range spans 200 kms averaging 3000 metres in height and boasts San paintings dating back 4000 years.

In between, you will experience the best Big Five game parks our country has to offer. Overnight stays at the best establishments on offer in these parks including evening and morning game drives and world class cuisine with some of South Africa’s finest wines will be part of the experience.

We have some spectacular roads in the region. We avoid the highways and toll roads entirely and take advantage of riding through the countryside. Our trips are customised around the rider’s ability but will generally be comprised of 25% gravel and 75% asphalt.

Our Lesotho trips are more rustic, but we have carefully selected the best accommodation and meal offerings available. The Lesotho options are normally for the more experienced rider but can be rerouted to accommodate the less experienced rider.

William O’Driscoll

founder of Africa Bike Trips

William O’Driscoll, who is the founder of Africa Bike Trips, has been riding motorcycles of all types for over 40 years. His passion for motorcycling began at a very early age when he and his brother had the opportunity to repair a 1950’s Triumph Tiger Cub. As soon as the bike started to run, the bug bit and he now has thousands of kilometres of riding experience on a multitude of different motorcycles across all types of roads, tracks and terrain in Southern Africa.

Further to this, William has been in the hospitality business for 35 years and with this experience will accept no compromise when it comes to finding the best possible comfort when our riders stay overnight or have a meal at our chosen lodges, hotels and restaurants.
